Spurs winning 8-1, 5 goals for Defoe.

And 9 of the 10 goals scored in the second half.
Surely a record, aint it Sid?

It would appear so ? ,Sunderland did score 8 inside half hour v Newcastle (old 1st division) but that was 100 odd years ago ,I remember Spurs beat Crewe 13.2 around 1960 but it was a F.A.Cup tie, think most of them came in the one half, but for a top level game would think it has to be a record.

In the interests of balance the most goals ever sccored by a player in a top flight game was the seven from Arsenal's Ted Drake against..... Aston Villa, sometime before WW11, you know back when Villa were a good side.

Bollox! I left Defoe on my Dreamteam bench and put Cuchoo in instead.

I was there when Bobby Tambling scored 5 against the Vile in a 6-2 shellacking; in fairness even the Vile fans gave him a standing ovation at the end of the game (or were they all secret Bluenoses like myself?)

After further research I would have to dispute that 'statement made on the radio'..!...Alfie Stokes scored 5 against us 18th September 1957,however in the same season Bobby Smith scored 5 goals on 29th March 1958, I'm 99% certain that was the last time any team had two players score 5 goals twice in a season in the top flight...oh and very nearly forgot the opposition when Bobby Smith scored his 5......the vile..!!

Apparently the Wigan players have offered to pay the supporters who had to witness their abysmal performance their money back.
I hope Gordon Brown and his lot follow suit.
