Sorry Sid I have to contradict you there. My hubby has got the DVD's of the original series of Columbo and in the episode 'Dead Weight', there is a close up shot of Columbo's name badge and his signature which clearly states FRANK Columbo

Got a bit overwhelmed there..!! think I've answered every body apologies If I have missed anybody out and our kid was round this way he just popped in for a quick chat and and a cuppa.....so it's just 1, 4 and 7 to go ..think I would have only known about four of them at best..

Well I had a good look about and it was given as Philip in earlier Trivial Pursuit books but it appeared it was a 'entry to stop copyright'.. and the question was later withdrawn there is a picture of his badge in a 1971 episode called Dead Weight but you can not distinguish the name, some sources give it as Frank and in one episode someone refers to him as Denny,in 'The Cop Cookbook a series of recipes by TV cops in aid of police widows his name is given as Philip Columbo ,but the writers insist that his first name wasn't revealed.....
