Oh yes Sidney! I've waited for months and months for this moment to finally arrive and the night it's on is Blue Rains bloody birthday, so we have to go out!!! I'm going to tape it loike but knowing our digi-box-dual-layered-hyphen-thingy like I do, it'll probably cut the last 5 minutes off it or summat?
Apparently the woman who plays Genes sidekick (Alex) who is transported back into 1981 from 2008, was Sam Tylers psychologist and believes that she knows of all Sams characters and imagines herself living amongst them as did Sam?
They are also showing the last episode of Life On Mars straight after Ashes to Ashes over on BBC4. Which will give you another opportunity to take a look at the law man beating up the wrong guy once again

What do you think of it so far? I think last nights episode was a definite improvement. At least now Alex Drake is beginning to get into the part instead of self-analysing and telling characters that they're just figments of her imagination? She's still no Sam Tyler though is she?
Next weeks episode features gay people from 1981 so look out for such quips as 'It's backs to the wall lads' et cetera?
Sid, what odds can I get on Betfair that John Baker will quote me on "What do you think of it so far" and then simply write underneath..."Rubbish"?

Thursdays episode was the best of the current series but it just seems to be lacking the sharpness of Life on Mars the character DI Drake could have done with a better script it tends to be padded out a bit too much (the episode when she was on about apostrophes comas etc. was cringe making !) ,still we will see how this one on Thursday goes.

I really like it and have enjoyed every episode so far - last nights was really funny and poinient too.
Every interview I saw/heard with Philip Glenister before it started he kept saying if you're expecting another Life on Mars you'll be disapointed. It's not meant to be like Life on Mars and they couldn't top Life on Mars anyway if they tried. That's how I've tried to to watch it.
I don't like that Daughter of Drakes - Moley Molly, she freaks me out more than the clown does

It's hard but you need to forget about how good the Sam Tyler character was and enjoy watching Gene Hunt, Chris and Raymondo again in a different era.

Thursdays episode pulled in another 800,000 viewers up to around 6.6 million which in todays terms isn't bad it certainly watchable.

Sidney, that bit towards the end when Gene shot the glass doors and the action froze as the opening beats of 'Vienna' by Ultravox came in was the absolute television moment of 2008. I was crying, it was just everything I've ever wanted in a television programme. Beautiful.

enjoyed them all i like it as much if not more than life on mars funny watching Raymondo chating up the gay the other week and chris being a new romantic

i think the whole cast has worked well together i would have prefered to see the original wpc from life on mars in it.
what about yeti having fits last night

it was a far cry from the firm

Well its over though another series has been commissioned for next year, last nights episode was a bit weak in parts, getting some sports trophies when Lord Scarman visited and putting one of their own in a cell to create a good impression it gave you the feeling the writers rushed it through to fill the script up without giving it a lot of thought,it might just be worth another series but that's probably that then..?

I watched last night's episode. The scriptwriting is lazy, paradoxes are not investigated enough when there was a wealth of one liners to be had, and the acting is almost too bad to be just bad enough..

I haven't enjoyed this one anywhere near as much. They are making another one for next year and by last night's episode it seems it will be again be about the very irritating Alex Drake unfortunately. Let's hope in the meantime they give her some acting lessons, find her a top that covers her bra strap and teach her another stance other than posing with her hands in the back pockets of her jeans and sticking her tits out. Gene and the boys have been pretty entertaining still though. Other half is inconsolable that it is finished! Just been on play.com to buy him the soundtrack to cheer him up. What a lovely girlfriend I am.

I really enjoyed it, altho have to agree it was weak for the finale episode.
Seemed dragged out then when it got to the conclusion it was all a bit rushed, altho I thought it was really good and they tied it all up.
Shame got to wait till next year to watch Gene in action again - Gene Hunt

fwoarrrrr !!!!!
