Full Version: Vaughan - should he tour WI?
Birmingham City > Brumsnumberone > General Sport

The media are lobbying for ex-captain Michael Vaughan to be selected for the party to tour the West Indies (tour party to be announced today at 1pm).

Vaughan has scored just 43 runs in five months since he quit as England captain.

Does it make sense to omit Owais Shah or Ravi Bopara or Ian Bell to make room for Vaughan merely on the strength of his past record against the Aussies (with the Ashes series to follow the WIndies tour)?

Yes. As the old saying goes, "Form is temporary, class is permanent". MV has a brilliant record against the Aussies and bringing him ino the fold against the Windies only makes sense..

Same here...he's luvverlee, he is.
Bluepeter15
Class isn't permanent, Panj- just ask W.G. Grace.

No. It's like bringing Beckham back for England games. He was good, now he's not, so lets try out a few different players against the Windies and hopefully one will be good enough to face to Aussies.

I'd play Shah, hush hush, eye to eye.
Panja

Enough of this kajagoogoogooeness, Vaughan is a much better batter than Shah so shut it..

I'm in agreement with Dave Limahlito on this one. Bringing back Vaughn is not only a step but a giant stride down the wicket backwards? He hasn't been a consistently great number 3 batsman for England since 2003 and he's done bugger all last season. What has Robert Key got to do to get a call up? Eh? Eh?

Maybe the reasoning behind is to see how he performs v West Indies...?? if he is in the form of his life then he could be fired up v the Aussies but if not it would be a case of 'thanks for the memories mate' ..?

Hills now go 8/11 that his test career his over....and 1/2 he don't play in a test v the Aussies next summer.

He's not going then? Instead he'll fill his time this winter talking to some of the 205,000 members of the largest voluntary organisation for women in the UK at his four bedroomed house in Yorkshire.

It'll be the WI touring Michael Vaughan..

I've always liked Key. He gives overweight wannabe sportstars like me hope in this body fascist world, loike. I'd have him opening with Andy Moles.

Kept the burger van bloke in a job when the crowd's were well down too, Sidderrs, so as you say, fair play to him..
Panja

The plot thickens like a well seasoned saucepan of gravy that's had the meat juices of a lean joint of beef poured in while you baste the roast potatoes.

KP has openly said that there may have to be a rethink regarding his Captaincy because he wanted Vaughan by his side - presumably to tell him what to do - during the upcoming tour of the Windies, and he's not happy that he was outvoted..

Mutiny on the Caribbean? Bounty be..

Apparently it's mainly about the mutual dislike between coach and the new captain, with the Vaughan business being an example of Pietersen's impotence when it comes to the making of the big decisions!

Captain is alleged to have demanded talks with the big knobs at the ECB to lay down the law about his desire for power and influence, with the threat of resignation hanging over the discussions.

It doesn't help Moores' cause that he's a complete idiot does it? His management ths far has been very poor I think, with team inclusions based soley on old pals acts from his days at Sussex..

I'm not bitter..

That's always been the way though ain't it Stret? Remember when Mickey Stewart was the gaffer and we had nothing but Middlesex/Essex/Surrey players?

The coach should just coach the team, he shouldn't get involved in team selection that is what we have a captain and a board of selectors for.

I think Ashley Giles should be in charge..

I think it was more down to the fact that the job was vacant, Giles had just retired and he was a suitable applicant for the post. When the interview started going the shape of a pear however, he got his old school tie out and started towel flicking the interviewees.

That did the trick..
