Australia v WI (Most aussies live the windies) sub 30k. for a 50 over game.
Aus v Pakis 50 over 15k, 20-twenty domestic games were all sellouts (17k due to renos of my beloved ground)
Domestic 20-twenty crowds have on the whole been larger than the international 50 over games.
So is this tippy-go style cricket actually good, or has it just highlighted how boring the 50 over game has become?
I'm a bit of a cricket purist. I love my test matches and love nothing more than to sit down for hours for 5 days in a row watching an epic battle unfold. I love watching and innigs being built. I love watching a bowler set up an in form batsmen over a few overs or even the day to claim that match turning wicket. In the past Ive loved watching Dean Jones, Adam Gilchrist, Lance Klusner and further back, Sir Viv and his Calypso kings dominate the One dayers here in Aus. Ive also enjoyed watching one day specialists (O'Donnell, Rhodes late in his career) and how one day cricket has lifted the standard if fielding (exept in the Sub Continent)
However she who part owns the telly hates test cricket. She will only watch the first and last 10 overs of one dayers.
However she will go out of her watch to watch a twenty-20 match. She loves it. Shes commenting on tactics. I'm starting to enjoy it too, especially how the bowlers are starting to reclaim some ground in this format. I like watching the veterans play in the IPL and seeing internationals ply their trade in Australia for the first time in may years. Im enjoying 3 hours of action in 3 hours, as since the powerplay came in, teams have become conservative in the middle overs again I get 3 hours of action in 6 hours.
So my question is, Will tippy-go kill off the 50 over game. going on the crowds in Australia, (were lucky to get 1,000 people to a four day game) it will be non existant in short order.
