Men at Work, Down Under. A terrific timeless track.
But a rip off of some Girl Guides shit according to the courts and therefore the royalties have been swerved away from everyone's favourite Oz-based one hit wonders*. After listening to both tracks, my untrained ear can hear a very vague resemblence but no more than when I hear an Oasis track followed by a T-Rex or Slade track**.
Now the Elastica vs Stranglers case - definitely. Or The Hoosiers vs both The Cure and ELO - definitely.
Discuss. Or not, and leave this hanging like a bad smell.
* After Angry Anderson, Stefan Dennis and Mental As Anthing
** But definitely not The Beatles, who I don't recall ever recording a late 70s pub rock song.

Blimey, Angry Anderson...Do you remember an antipodean* band called Midnight Oil that had a big hit over here in the late 80's, I think it was called Bed Are Burning? fabulous track.
*This is a mis-truth as Austrailia isn't an exact antipode of Britain.

George Harrison lost his court battle over the claims that he plaigurised The Chiffons' hit 'He's so fine' when he wrote 'My sweet lord', and lost a bucket load of cash in royalties not only for that song, which incidentally topped the charts in about 4,000 countries, but also a chunk of the money generated from the long player it was featured on, All things must pass.
When will we get to the stage where a new choon will be impossible to write as all the chords sequences have been used up? My guess is last Thursday, about 4pm.
Ish.
